Welcome to this tutorial where I'll show you how to create a simple yet effective project tracker in Excel.

Step 1: Setting Up Your Data

First, we need to create a simple list of employees and the tasks assigned to them. Your Excel sheet should look something like this:

Step 2: Adding Checkboxes for Task Completion

Typically, you might manually type "done" or "undone" to indicate task status. However, there's a more efficient way:

1. Highlight the Cells: Select the cells where you want to track task completion.
2. Insert Checkboxes:
- Go to the Insert tab.
- Select Checkboxes from the options.

This makes it easy to mark tasks as completed with a simple click.

Step 3: Calculating the Percentage of Tasks Completed

To visualize progress, we’ll calculate the percentage of completed tasks. Here’s how:

1. Input a Simple Formula: Use the `REPT` function to create a visual bar.

Formula Example:

Replace `<percentage_of_tasks_completed>` with your actual calculation. For instance, if 3 out of 5 tasks are completed:

Step 4: Creating a Visual Progress Bar

To make the progress bar more intuitive:

1. Select the Cell: Where you want the progress bar to appear.
2. Enter the Formula: As shown above, using the `REPT` function.
3. Format the Bar: Adjust the font and cell formatting to make the bar stand out. You can use conditional formatting to change colors based on completion levels.

Step 5: Enhancing the Tracker with Conditional Formatting

Conditional formatting can further enhance the visual appeal of your project tracker:

1. Select the Cells: You want to format.
2. Go to the Home Tab: Click on Conditional Formatting.
3. Create a New Rule: Set up rules to change cell colors based on the value (e.g., green for completed tasks, red for pending).

With these steps, you've created a simple yet powerful project tracker in Excel. This tracker helps you and your team stay organized and focused, with clear visual indicators of progress. Remember, the key to effective project management is not just tracking tasks but also making the process as efficient and visual as possible.
